On October 18th, Mikhael Kale kicked off World MasterCard Fashion week by launching his Spring/Summer 2014 collection.
Being a designer that’s been featured in publications such as The New York Times Style Magazines, WWD, and Nylon and dressed celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Sienne Miller and Beyonce — it’s needless to say, his designer fills his home town nothing but pride for fashion.
Toronto is home to both myself and some of my most supportive clients. To be able to show in World MasterCard Fashion Week allows me to put on something special for them. In addition, it is equally as gratifying to contribute to the Toronto fashion industry from within,” said Kale.
Taking place in a condo building that was still undergoing it’s construction, the cold concrete used for the setting beautifully offset the leather and knits that were parading down the runway in a splash of powder blues, tangerines and neon yellows.
Kale’s Spring/Summer 2014 World MasterCard Fashion Week runway collection was epitome of effortless style. Cutouts, moto jackets and light layered knits sauntered down the runway on models in sky-high heels. The layered and ripped skirts were a particular favourite of mine; especially in the knits. It was beautiful to see something so soft and feminine ripped and shaped to be something much edgier. The cool-factor continued with music from DJ James Drummond, hair by Redken’s Cynthia Duplantis, and makeup by Lead Makeup Artist for Maybelline New York Canada Grace Lee. Nails were created by essie Lead Artist Rita Remark.
While the collection was taking place, bloggers, editors and PR Maven’s couldn’t capture and tweet/instagram the clothing fast enough. Coo’s were heard all around the room followed by subtle finger-pointed at which garment there were lusting over the most.
The collection is youthful and young-minded, but not young; it’s directional. It’s all about technique; the collection needed to go super modern. It’s very streamlined, not simple, but tightly edited,” said Kale. “The result is a method we created that utilizes a leather padding technique that bonds mirrored shapes. Like many of my collections, Spring/Summer 2014 is a culmination of technique, shape and a styling direction.”
