Lash Perfection

As many of you know from my videos and posts, I am someone that loves thick, long lashes. To me, they always complete any makeup look and leave me feeling beautiful and glamorous. I had shared my experiences in past about Flirt Custom Lash when I first became a lash extension addict a few years ago, and after visiting their new Toronto location, am back at it once more.

First off, the Toronto location is stunning; let’s address that first. Filled with light, their spacious, yet cozy location is something I expressed I would move into when I first laid eyes on it. Charming posters, over-sized leather chairs, and mirrors I wish were in my home, fill the space.

In the midst of the space, a plush table for you to lay on awaits you. Just looking at it makes you want to drive into it’s comfiness.

Paddy, the stylish yet sassy lash expert at Toronto’s FCL, gave me a fabulous set of lashes that complimented my slightly hooded eyes. They instantly look more vibrant, open and doll-like.

My eyelash extension experience has taken place over the span of a couple of years, and I’m loving every minute of it. What started as a innocent lash experience for my brother’s destination wedding, has morphed into a full-blown love affair. While there was nothing wrong with my lashes prior, the experience of tossing my mascara wand, glue for falsies, and wasted time in my beauty regime has been a no brainer for me.

While I do receive compliments from strangers everywhere I go courtesy Flirt Custom Lash in their Toronto space, I also receive an equal amount of questions regarding them.

Here are a few answers to the questions I continuously get regarding lash extensions:

  1. Does putting the lashes on hurt?
Not at all. In fact, I don’t feel a thing! Most people sleep, rest and relax during the session. I, personally, love my girl chats with Sommer and her girls at Flirt.
  2. How long does it take?
The first application to get a full set of lashes on is just over an hour. Afterwards, I pop in every 3 weeks for a ‘relash’, where new lash extension are placed on adult hairs to replace the ones that have naturally shed from the previous weeks. The relash takes about 40 minutes – 1 hour.
  3. How much does it cost?
The first application costs $150, and after that, the cost is $50 every 3 weeks. It’s less than a manicure!
  4. What kind of lashes do they use?
A: Flirt Custom Lash uses a single strand silk lashes. They are not only the lightest, but will ensure that your lashes aren’t damaged. Beware of anyone that offers clusters and layering as this can cause major damage to your own lashes.
  5. Will it damage your lashes?
A: If they are applied properly, there shouldn’t be any damage. Lash extensions should only be applied to the adult lashes as these are the ones that have reached maturity and will fall out during the upcoming weeks.  To see whether my own lashes had been damaged from the extensions, I took mine out for a month break. I was ecstatic to see that they were just as long as before. I put them back on again after my chosen break and won’t look back.
  6. Can you use mascara and your current makeup?
A: Ideally, you want to avoid any oil based makeup so it doesn’t loosen the extension you’ve put on, so water-based mascara is okay to use. This applies toward any type of cosmetic product around your eyes. As someone that only uses liquid eyeliner,  I now opt for options like Maybelline’s Master Precise liquid liner as it’s water based, not oil. Wetting eye shadow is also a way to get the same dramatic effect, as are gel liners or eyeliner pencils.
  7. Are they hard to clean?
A: Not at all, I give them a quick swipe with a Q-tip at the end of the night with some water-based makeup remover and I’m good to go!
  8. What if you want to take them off?
A: You can book an appointment to have them removed. It takes about 30mins and is as quick and painless as the application.
